Simone's Birthday Dive
Monday, 07 January 2013
Yesterday, one of Dive Timor Lorosae's dive instructors had a birthday. Simone headed out in the morning to complete the final two dives with here Open Water student and chose Tasi Tolu, one of her favorite dive sites for the first dive. Shortly after beginning the dive, while doing some compass skills, Simone spotted a dugong casually swimming near them! Compass skills went on hold for the moment while Simone and her student enjoyed the very close and friendly dugong that continued to swim around and check them out for several minutes. There have been many sightings of dugongs in the last months around Tasi Tolu due to the sea grasses growing in the shallow areas that are the dugongs food source. This was not the only special present for Simone on her birthday. Later during the dive, she spotted a 3 meter long Leopard Ray! This little known species of ray is found in the Indian and Pacific oceans and named for its beautiful leopard print pattern and can grow to over 4 meters long. Simone and her student had plenty of time to admire this lovely ray as it was sleeping on the sandy bottom before finally moving on to continue the dive. Here at DTL we were very happy that Simone got everything she wanted for her birthday and hope that we are as lucky on our next dives!
